A leader's perspective...

The temperature is climbing toward 50 degrees Celsius (122 F) as I make my way toward Lyabi-Hauz, the reservoir in the centre of Bukhara. I duck between the archways of the caravanserai and as I emerge into the wide open expanse of the square, I make a beeline for the trees surrounding the water. Under each tree is a large platform seat, catering to old men who gather in the cooler shade to play cards, chat and sip tea. It´s the local children who still have energy to spare. They take great delight in climbing up the trees and jumping off into the pool below – they begin to show off once they realise there is an audience, the competition seeming to be who can make the biggest splash and get me wet!
